1982 - A group of women form a self-help network. They hold their meetings in the home of one of their members. The women conduct a householders' survey to ask all the women of Campbell River what services they need. Campbell River women respond. They say they want a place downtown where they can change their babies, have a coffee, meet other women and get information.

1983 - The Campbell River Women's Resources Society applies for operational funding to the Women's Program Secretary of State and registers their bylaws and Constitution.

1984 - The Campbell River Women's Centre opens on Shopper's Row

1985 - Increased demands on the Centre mean more space is needed. It moves to 457 10th Street, its location for the next 22 years.

Since those days, the Centre was instrumental in getting the following organizations up and running:

- 1986: North Island Transition Society, which opened the Ann Elmore Transition House

-1987: Planned Parenthood

- 1988: Women's Perspective, a weekly CRTV program

- 1991: North Island Advocacy Coalition Society (Now Island JADE)

-1991: Business and Professional Women's Network

- 1992: Multicultural and Immigrant Services Association

- 1993: Women's Sexual Assault Centre

In all of these cases, Campbell River women were at the forefront. With their dedication and commitment, they initiated a groundswell of support that helped create the inter-connected social service web our community benefits from today.

In 2008 we changed our official society name to Vancouver Island North Women's Resource Society in order to better reflect our geographical location and service area to potential funders and to women of BC and Canada.
